Records of the county clerk relating to local, state, judicial and special elections, primarily from 1879-1928. For the majority of the elections from 1855 to 1928 the records consist of inspectors' statements of results and tally sheets, usually at the precinct level. Poll lists giving the names of voters date from 1829 to 1906 and are continuous for 1856-1897. Election records of particular interest are the 1859 and 1861 referenda which sought to move the county seat from Prairie du Chien to a newly-created community and an 1857 referendum on African-American suffrage.
