L. Roger Turner Photographs, circa 1960s-1997

Biography/History

Turner was the chief photographer for the Wisconsin State Journal from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. At the end of the 20th century, Turner was honored by The Associated Press for a photograph he had taken in 1986 of the Massey family, a farming family who had just lost their farm. Turner’s photograph of the Massey family leaving the Iowa County Courthouse was named one of the “Wisconsin Photographs of the Century” by The Associated Press. Turner also co-wrote the book, Wisconsin’s Historic Courthouses, which is a combination of Turner’s original photographs and historic photographs of Wisconsin courthouses that have been demolished.
