The collection is divided into three series: Correspondence, Publicity, and Film History Journals. Arrangement is in the order as donated.
Original folder titles were also maintained in processing, with the addition of dates, types
of documents, and occasional title clarification.
The Correspondence series is further divided into three sub-series: Submissions, Editorial,
and Various. Submissions includes drafts and proposals, often with notes, and printed images
for published articles, with research materials for some articles (both primary and
secondary sources). The correspondence involves both scholars submitting to the journal and
scholars working with Koszarski as guest editors for specific issues. To maintain the
organization of the collection as it was donated, Submissions correspondence is arranged
alphabetically by the last name of the person corresponding. In a few cases, the name refers
to the subject of the correspondence, like the folders about an issue on early film
researcher J.J. Phelan or a quote from Martin Scorsese. Editorial correspondence primarily
addresses publishing arrangements, with some copyright forms, proofs, and guidelines for
editors. Editorial correspondence is arranged chronologically. The Various sub-series
includes correspondence about special issues and topics in the journal, like the survey
titled “A Century of Film Literature,” an issue on film book publishing, and a
planned anthology issue, as well as miscellaneous notes and research materials. Additional
drafts of published articles and features have been saved as pdfs; please speak to an
archivist for access to the electronic files.
The Publicity series is a folder containing brochures, clippings, and other materials about
Film History.
The Film History Journals series includes the run of the
publication from volume 1 (1987) to volume 24 (2012).
