Cy Howard was a writer, producer, director, and creator who worked in film, theater,
television, and radio. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 27, 1915, and he
attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison before transferring to the University of
Minnesota. After working as a salesman in Chicago, an actor in New York City, and a comedy
writer for Jack Benny, Howard wrote and produced the radio series My
Friend Irma (1947-1954). A film by the same title came out in 1949, with a sequal
My Friend Irma Goes West in 1950. The radio series was also
adapted into a television program (1952-1954). His radio series Life
with Luigi (1948-1953) was also adapted for television (1952-1953). Howard also
wrote film scripts, including Marriage on the Rocks (1965)
and he directed the films Lovers and Other Strangers (1970)
and Every Little Crook and Nanny (1972). Cy Howard died on
April 29, 1993 in Los Angeles, California.
