Wisconsin Arts Board Records, 1994-2008 (bulk 1996-1998)

Contents List

Container Title
Series: Sesquicentennial Folklife Festival, 1996-1998
Scope and Content Note: In honor of its sesquicentennial, the state of Wisconsin was selected to participate in the 1998 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. In addition, the 1998 Wisconsin Folklife Festival was held a month later in Madison, Wisconsin to further honor the occasion and give locals a chance to participate and celebrate. In preparation for both festivals, the Wisconsin Arts Board sent out fieldworkers to all corners of the state to identify potential participants and gather information about Wisconsin's rich history, traditions, and cultures. They documented their findings in field reports and audio recordings. Planning for each festival occurred roughly simultaneously and materials pertaining to the two festivals are often found together in the collection.
