Donald J. Mueller was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 29, 1934. He received his
B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1958, his M.A. from the University of
Nevada in Reno in 1959, and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1965,
all in psychology. He worked as a psychological consultant for the Wisconsin State
Department of Health and Social Services in the Department of Corrections until coming to
UWM as an assistant professor in both the Department of Psychology and in the School of
Social Welfare in 1966. In addition to his work in psychology, Mueller was dedicated to his
study of public transportation, which he considered a second career. He was was a local
expert on trolleys and horse-drawn street cars, and was active in the Wisconsin Electric
Railway Historical Society. He died on May 24, 1994.
