Albert W. Grant Papers, 1829-1930

Biography/History

Albert W. Grant, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, worked in the Stevens Point Post Office then about 1873 entered the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis as a midshipmen. His Naval career included serving as a commander of vessels principally in the Orient, chief of staff of the Atlantic Fleet during the world cruise of 1908-1909, and commandant of the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He was promoted through the grades to the rank of rear admiral in 1915 and was retired as vice admiral in 1920. He died on September 30, 1930.
