George B. Belting Papers, 1952-1970

Scope and Content Note

The George B. Belting Papers relate almost entirely to his career in the Assembly. Included are subject and political campaign files, microfilmed clipping scrapbooks, press releases, speeches, and constituent correspondence. Correspondence, which is chronologically-arranged by year, comprises the bulk of the collection (five boxes). The letters touch on a host of constituent and legislative concerns, but, unfortunately, the collection offers no subject or bill number access. The subject files contain notes, floor statements, and background information. Material of a purely informational character has been weeded, and as a result many of the remaining files are quite fragmentary. Most extensive is the file on Belting's involvement in the effort to improve Highway 15. The political campaign files include microfilmed clipping scrapbooks, which provide quite extensive coverage of both his campaigns and his work in the legislature; press releases; and speeches. The sole non-legislative material in the collection is a receipt book from his law practice.
