John W. Teter was born on November 7, 1909 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He began working at
the Wisconsin State Teacher's College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in September 1938. He served
as head of the Department of Social Work between 1956-63, and as acting dean of the School
of Social Welfare between 1972-74. He retired in 1980.
