Jules Bergman Papers, 1965-1974

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains TV Scripts of Bergman's daily science news reports for ABC-TV covering the first four months of 1974, and five ABC News Closeup scripts spanning three years, 1972-1974. The News Closeup scripts were written for special television shows regarding earthquakes, fire, the oil crisis, the space program, and general science picture of the United States. However, the greater part of the collection is made up of material concerned with the NASA Apollo and Skylab missions. This is almost entirely NASA-distributed press information. It is arranged chronologically by flight and takes the form of training manuals, press kits, flight plans, and lunar trajectory chart notes. Data regarding scientific experiments carried out on various Apollo and Skylab missions completes the written space information.

Photographs released from NASA regarding the Apollo and Skylab programs and astronomical charts and lunar maps sent with the Bergman collection, that were not selected for inclusion in the iconographic or map collections of the Society, have been retained with the Bergman manuscripts. They are filed in the Space Program series under Photographs, Videotape, and Posters, and Maps and Charts.

At the end of the Space Program series folder list is a list of films in the collection; all are silent 16 mm archival positives. Also listed are 3 tape recordings pertaining to the Space Program.
