Series: 2. General Files, 1985-2011
: Series 2 consists of files documenting two programs administered by the Office of
Research and Sponsored Programs: the Extramural Support Information Center (ESIC) and
the JASON Project. Both of these programs were administered directly by the Office of
Research and Sponsored Programs and maintained no official affiliation with any UWM
Research Center.
The Extramural Support Information Center was part of a
UW-System-wide initiative to provide faculty and other researchers with the resources
needed to identify, locate, and properly apply for external grant funding. The
collection includes ESIC annual reports, workshop agendas and attendee lists,
correspondence, and monthly information packets informing the campus community of ESIC
activities and newly-announced grant opportunities.
The JASON project was the
UW-Milwaukee affiliate of the national JASON Foundation for Education, a non-profit
subsidiary of the National Geographic Society founded in 1989. The Office of Research
and Sponsored Programs administered the program for the greater Milwaukee area, helping
UW-Milwaukee faculty and staff integrate their research interests into science education
for local students in grades 5-8. The files include planning documents, correspondence,
annual reports, budgets, and information regarding special programs, including the
Argonauts' Ball and the Passport to Discovery program. Gifts, Grants, and Contracts
Accepted by the Board of Regents are also included in this series.
