Biography/History

In 1964, the Department of Campus Protection was formed with the primary functions of protecting life and property against criminal attack, and the preservation of peace. The first university law enforcement officer was appointed in 1965 and oversaw an operational force of six watchmen. In 1973 the department changed its name to the University Police Department. The University Police exists to provide essential law enforcement, emergency and protective services to university students, staff, faculty and visitors.
