Jean Rosenthal Papers, 1938-1972

Biography/History

Jean Rosenthal began her career in 1936, when she became production and lighting director of the Mercury Theatre. Since that time, she has designed lighting for the American Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, Connecticut, the New York City Center, the Dallas Opera, and many productions on Broadway and elsewhere. She planned the lighting of the Pan-American Terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport, and with William Pitkin designed settings for the 1961 AMA production of Hail the Conquering Hero. Working through Theatre Production Service, she acted as technical consultant for schools and community theatres.

Jean Rosenthal died on May 1, 1969.
