The Urban Research Center was established on July 1, 1974 as a Graduate School unit serving
UWM faculty and students who submit research proposals for extramural funding. It acts as a
contact between the University and the Milwaukee community for research assistance, works as
the institutional representative for Roper Public Opinion Center, and conducts other special
projects. The mission of the center is to encourage and support research, communication, and
development of theory relevant to the policy needs of an urban society. The Urban Research
Center reports to the Graduate School.
