International Studies and Programs was created in 1957, dissolved in 1970, and reformed in
1982. During the initial 14 year period, International Studies and Programs chief
administrative head was a dean. From its reformation in 1982 to 2000, International Studies
and Programs was overseen by a director who reported to the dean of the Graduate School.
In 2000, International Studies and Programs was merged with the Center for International
Studies to become the Center for International Education (CIE). The Center also oversees two
other subunits, the Office of Student and Scholar Services and the office of Overseas
Programs and Partnerships.
