The UW-Milwaukee Student Union opened in 1956 and was expanded and remodeled numerous times
to accommodate a growing student population. The UW-Milwaukee Student Union is a cultural,
social, and recreational center for the UWM community, housing an art gallery, bookstore,
cinema, recreation center, craft centre, food service and dining areas, as well as meeting
rooms and offices, including those of student organizations. The Union Policy Board is
responsible for formulating and setting policy for the overall operation of the Union.
