UW-Milwaukee Physical Environment Committee Records, 1931-1996

Scope and Content Note

The campus-wide records and materials generated by the PEC are gathered together under the Physical Environment Committee main heading. The most important of these records are the minutes and related materials files which include correspondence and agenda materials. Also included in the PEC files are Campus Building Programs, Caudill Rowlet Scott campus planning records, Steering Committee records, and Summaries of Action.

Subcommittees of the PEC were formed for each building constructed or remodeled on the UWM campus after 1956. The buildings which made up the old Milwaukee-Downer School campus (Albert, Chapman, Garland, Greene, Holton, Johnston, Kimberly, McLaren, Merrill, Pearse, and Sabin Halls) are gathered together under the heading of the Milwaukee-Downer Buildings Subcommittee, which also includes records pertaining to the Milwaukee-Downer Campus as a whole. Off-campus buildings owned by UW-Milwaukee, such as the Civic Center Campus, Kenilworth Hall, and the Great Lakes Research Center, all have their own subcommittee records.

Also included are records for a proposed Life Science and Allied Health building and Instructional Communications Center building, neither of which were constructed.

Records for the Names of Buildings Subcommittee, the Parking Subcommittee, and the Year 2000 Masterplan Committee are also part of the collection. Included in the Names of Buildings Subcommittee records are materials related to the process of selecting names for campus buildings. The Parking Subcommittee records contain correspondence, documents collected or produced by the subcommittee, minutes, parking plans, parking surveys, and related materials. The Year 2000 Masterplan Committee records contain the Report of the Committee and the Year 2000 Masterplan.
