Cultural and Technological Studies (CTS) was initiated in 1973 as an undergraduate
non-degree program by faculty of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, the College
of Letters & Science, and the School of Architecture & Urban Planning.
Administratively, the program resided in the College of Engineering and Applied Science but
did not have a separate teaching staff. In addition to the director and a historian, the
associate faculty was recruited from faculty already at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In 1985, CTS was no longer listed as an interdepartmental study program. However, CTS
courses were still listed separately in the College of Engineering and Applied Science until
1987.
