The Zoology Department was established in 1956 when the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
was created. A microbiology sub-area was added to the department in 1977 with Charles C.
Remsen serving as coordinator (1977-1984). In 1984 the Zoology Department merged with the
Botany Department to form the Department of Biological Sciences.
