The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee established the Department of Hebrew Studies in
September 1961, funded by a grant from the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning, and
administered by the College of Letters & Science. In 1996, the department became a
program in the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics.
