UWM's Department of Art and Art Education recommended, on 18 November 1960, that a
Department of Art History be established in the School of Education. On 2 December 1960, a
UWM Sub-Group on Art History recommended that the department be placed in the College of
Letters & Science. The department was created, and placed within the college, in
June 1961.
