In late 1964, faculty members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee met informally to
discuss educational technology and its increasing effect on the campus. The group formally
became the Instructional Media Committee and founded the Instructional Media Laboratory on
December 1, 1966, which reported directly to the UW-Milwaukee administration. The laboratory
took over certain duties of the Curriculum Library. In late 1978, the name of the laboratory
was changed to the Educational Communications Division. Currently, the division reports to
the School of Education.
