Scope and Content Note

Collection contains the records of the associate dean of the School of Fine Arts. Includes subject files which document the associate dean's activities and responsibilities concerning the school's Departments of Art, Dance, Film, Music, and Theatre regarding curriculum development, faculty, class and teacher evaluations. The collection mainly consists of correspondence, proposals, and working papers regarding curriculum development and the associate dean's involvement with on-campus and off-campus special events and projects.

The collection includes working papers and proposals for the creation of the Master of Fine Arts in Performing Arts program, including minutes and correspondence of the Master of Fine Arts Coordinating Committee which spearheaded the creation of the masters program between 1977 and 1978.

Minutes and correspondence from various meeting and committee files document the associate dean's participation in the Fine Arts Education Council, Fine Arts Gallery Committee, Inter Arts Committee Meetings, and the University of Wisconsin System Arts Administrators Meetings. These committees were concerned with curriculum development and exhibit selection.

Collection also contains promotional brochures, press releases, flyers, public relations material, and correspondence concerning the planning of events, performances and exhibits on-campus and within the community. Included are files concerning the 20th Century Bassoon Project, Asian Art, Religion and Culture Program, Carnicus, Ko-Thi Dance Company, Pabst Theater and Vogel Hall Concert Series, Rondel Summer Street Studio Program, Summer Arts Programs, Summer Evenings of Music, and the Wisconsin Indo-Chino Refugee Relief Benefit at the Pabst.

Records of off-campus public relations matters which fell to the associate dean are also contained in the collection. The associate dean participated in the International Education Conference addressing outreach activities of international studies centers and citizenship education, and the Urban Corridor Consortium, which facilitated communication and cooperation between faculty members at four University of Wisconsin campuses: Green Bay, Milwaukee, Oshkosh and Parkside. Community projects in which the associate dean participated included the Lincoln High School Arts Center Project, Project TAFMIL, Summer Institute, Wisconsin Alliance for Arts Education, and the Work Tours Project. These community projects focused on encouraging fine arts projects and education within the community.
