The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was founded in 1956. Upon UWM's creation, the
departments of chemistry in the Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee and UW-Extension merged
to form a new Department of Chemistry. Since 1956, the College of Letters & Science
has administered the Department of Chemistry.
