4.8 cubic feet (4 records center cartons and 2 archives boxes) and 1 audio recording
: Hearing and complaint files, concerning individual agents and insurance companies, closed, 1980-1982, with some exhibit material dating to the mid 1960s. Unlike the previous accessions which contained similar records, this accession was weeded and only files of substantial size were retained. These case files were then weeded again to remove routine and duplicate material. The agent files contain hearing files and investigative correspondence with companies and complainants, many of whom are elderly purchasers of Medicare supplemental insurance. In addition to financial examinations, company advertising, and other investigative material, the retained company files variously contain hearing transcripts and records, and interrogatories, transcripts, and pleadings for appealed cases. Among the companies represented are Colonial Penn Insurance Company, Credit Life Insurance Company, the Garot Christmas Agency (Blue Cross Blue Shield United of Wisconsin), Marsh & McLennan Insurance Company, Insurance Benefits Plans Inc. (IBP) of Milwaukee, ITT Life Insurance Company of Thorp, Midwestern National Life Insurance Corporation of La Crosse, and University Life Insurance Company. Although not separately listed with the company files, references to the Reliable Life and Casualty Company of Madison are scattered through the accession.
