Scope and Content Note: A data table created by John O. Holzhueter as a volunteer project to access approximately 300 Frank Lloyd Wright-related images within the Historical Society's large University of Wisconsin Bureau of Audio Visual Instruction (BAVI) negative collection. The images are part of two BAVI negatives lots: W6, which consists of 4x5 glass negatives, and W635, which consists of 5x6 nitrate negatives. The two BAVI lots are a by-product of copy work the lab did to create instructional lantern slides for the University as well as some work for private clients. Frank Lloyd Wright used the lab to make record copies of architectural drawings, to copy original drawings and photographs for exhibitions, and to photograph architectural models. Holzhueter's table identifies each negative by its item number, and if a positive exists, where it is filed. (Prints for W6 and W635 are filed in two artificial lots: PH 4274 and PH 1557). In addition, the table includes caption information from the original negative sleeves, together with comments based on Holzhueter's extensive research. Although all of the Wright-related images from the BAVI collection are included, Holzhueter did not comment on every item. The table also includes a few images by Melvin Diemer, staff photographer for the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture, who also did photographic work for Wright. The Diemer negatives are part of Diemer Lots D483 and D489.
Access Restrictions: Use of nitrate negatives restricted. Consult reference archivist regarding access to negatives.
