Wisconsin. Department of Natural Resources. Division of Enforcement: Environmental Impact Statement Files, 1958-1981

Biography/History

Under Wisconsin Statutes 1.11, all agencies of the state are required to report on major projects that will have a significant effect on the quality of the human environment. Each department must give any information that shows how the environment would be impacted by the project, whether detrimental or beneficial. The policies were set under the laws of 1971, chapter 274, and enforced that same year. The statements were regulated first by the Division for Environmental Protection, then the Division of Enforcement starting in 1974. Any information prior to 1967 comes from the Department of Resource Development.
