The Dept. of Classics was established in 1956 at the time of the merger between the
Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin's Milwaukee Center when
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was created.
In 1997 the department became a program in the Department of Foreign Languages and
Linguistics.
