Collection contains records of the University of
Wisconsin-Extension in Milwaukee from its establishment in 1907 to the reorganization of
extension activities in the mid-1970s. Also minimal records dating back to 1896 when some
courses already were being offered in Milwaukee by the University of Wisconsin and some
records after the reorganization into the mid-1980s. This collection's records are most
complete from the 1940s through the early 1970s.
The records include the
extension's annual reports from 1920 to 1978 with gaps from 1946-1956 and 1964-1977. Other
significant extension records include bulletins and catalogs, publications, class schedules
(1931-1959), commencement records, various committee minutes and correspondence, enrollment
reports and statistics (1920-1956), faculty meeting minutes and directories, scrapbooks
(1929-1956), various subject files and some student organization records. Correspondence and
subject files from the extension departments of commerce, education, nursing and social work
are also included.
Center and institute records contained in the collection are the
Center for Advanced Study in Organization Science which includes the director's
correspondence from 1958-1963, Center for Community Leadership Development, Center for
Consumer Affairs, and the Management Institute. Also included are the records for the School
for Workers from 1958 to 1963. The administrative and statistical records from the Office of
Continuing Education, evening division and summer session are included, as well.
