May 1973, the University Board of Regents approved a policy statement which established an organization to coordinate University outreach activity on a statewide basis. This led to the formation of the Division of Urban Outreach in June 1974. In 1985, the name was changed to the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education. The name changed again in 1987 to the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education Extension.
