Administrative records of the Lubar School of Business Administration and its predecessor
institutions, the UWM School of Business Administration and the University of
Wisconsin-Extension's Division of Commerce. The majority of the records date from the 1960s
to the early 2000s. The records document the accreditation process, committee business,
newsletters, community ties, curriculum development, and daily affairs of the School. Only a
few pre-1956 records of the Division exist, and most are enrollment reports.
Extensive information exists on the accreditation process by the American Association of
Collegiate Schools of Business. Files contain general guidelines and questionnaires for
accreditation of a business school program and information on the accrediting body. Also
included is correspondence on the School's accreditation proceedings, including
applications, reports, and various student and faculty statistics.
The Advisory Council, started in 1968, was a committee of local business leaders who
biannually met with the dean to discuss cooperative endeavors between the school and the
business community. The files contain membership lists, correspondence relating to
attendance and recruitment for the committee, and the topics discussed at the meetings. The
meetings appear to have been rather informal and little documentation of the substance of
the meetings, such as meeting minutes, exists in these files.
The correspondence files (1963-2008) consist of letters written to and by H.F. Klingman
(1963-1966), C. Edward Weber, (1966-1976), Eric Schenker (1976-1997), Charles O. Kroncke
(1997-2001), and V. Kanti Prasad (2001-2009). The files include letters to campus officials
and business leaders concerning the business school.
The executive committee files (1958-2008) contain minutes and correspondence of the monthly
meetings of the committee, comprised of the dean and select professors, which pertain to
faculty tenure, promotion, recruitment, and capital improvements.
Faculty meeting minutes (1958-2000) document the monthly staff meetings of the school. The
records contain the recommendations for new courses and policy changes from other committees
such as the Undergraduate Programs Committee or Graduate Programs Committee. Recommendations
for consideration of candidates for degrees and honors are also included in the files.
Martin-Weber Committee files (1968-1973) document the activities of a committee appointed
by Milwaukee Mayor Henry W. Maier on January 24, 1968 to study Milwaukee's government
structure. Martin and Weber were both members of the School. The files contain meeting
minutes, correspondence of committee members and government officials, and final reports and
organizational studies regarding Milwaukee government.
Master of Business Administration files document various committee minutes, curriculum
committee decisions, graduation requirements, final reports, and the promotion of, and
changes in, the MBA program between 1963 and 2000.
Undergraduate Program Committee files (1966-2000) document the creation of an undergraduate
program by the School of Business Administration. Committee minutes and correspondence
contain information on course requirements and how courses were justified and classified.
The roles and opinions of committee members are well-documented regarding
decision-making.
Unrestricted teaching evaluation summaries of full-time staff cover spring semester 1978 to
summer semester 1980. The evaluations include course information, name of instructor,
student demographic information, and instructor evaluation.
The collection also contains syllabi files from courses offered by the School between 1977
and 2013. These syllabi include course descriptions, sequences, and reading lists. The
syllabi files do not cover all courses offered by the School, but include syllabi for
numerous special topics courses.
