The Division of Planning was formed when the Department of Transportation was created in
1967, and departmental reorganization in September 1978 renamed it the Division of Planning
and Budget. The Division was responsible for providing administrative support and advice in
the areas of transportation policy, system and service policy, network and travel data
collection and forecasting, and public transportation liaison and assistance.
The Division of Planning and Budget has responsibility for integrated policy, planning, and
budget analysis within the State Department of Transportation. Its functions include
federal-state relations coordination, system planning, urban and regional planning, planning
methods and forecasts, budget and program analysis, compilation of data resources covering
network statistics, and travel statistics-data coordination.
