Wisconsin. Department of Justice. Division of Legal Services: Records and Related Material of Students to Oppose Pollution, 1969-1972

Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the series consists of investigation files created during the summer of 1970, although some reference materials date back to 1969, and follow-up action on some STOP investigations extended into 1972. Also included in the series are anti-pollution investigations conducted independently by the Attorney General's office. Arranged alphabetically by type, files of investigations conducted both by STOP and the Attorney General's office consist of detailed descriptions of specific pollution problems, slides, photographs, maps, and correspondence. The following categories of pollution problems were investigated: air pollution; foundries; power plants; solid waste; and towns, companies, and regions.

The series also contains a history of STOP: reports, 1970-1972, including the STOP final report; correspondence, 1970-1972; newspaper clippings; nuisance complaints, 1969-1970; pending investigations, undated; photographs; and a tape of a public hearing of the Committee on Streets and Zoning of the Milwaukee Common Council, June 2, 1970, including public testimony regarding the Lincoln Creek pollution problem.
