Other Finding Aids

An index allowing retrieval of these records by purchaser, legal description of land, number of document (such as patent), or a combination of these aspects is available as a compact disc publication in the Historical Society Library.

If you know the name of the land purchaser and the township in which the land was located, this register will allow you to retrieve the purchase information quickly. However, if you have only the name of a purchaser and not the location, or would like to check all land purchases by a particular person, the CD index can be very useful.

The CD index also provides graphic displays of sample documents. For example, you can view a representative Homestead Act patent. Also included are brief explanations of various land laws and acts. Additional information on the CD is available in paper form in the register file for Series 1673.
