Wisconsin. Medical Examining Board: Investigations, 1929-2006

Scope and Content Note

Pre-1955 files consist of the investigators' reports, correspondence, occasional court or hearing documents, police reports, and photographs for investigations concerning medical practice without the proper license; abortions; and alcoholism, drug abuse, and immorality.

For the period 1955-1975, the files contain correspondence and investigatory material, but little documentation of disciplinary hearings. Post-1975 files are primarily comprised of hearing documents, correspondence, transcripts, and exhibits. After the late 1970s there are no files on charges that were dismissed. The cases of the 1970s and 1980s are dominated by abortion, drug and alcohol abuse, improper prescription of narcotics and controlled substances, and fraud. Cases from the 1990s frequently include malpractice, prescription drugs, and alternative medicine.
