The collection documents the activities of the Metropolitan Integration Research
Center. It contains administrative files of the organization such as: board minutes,
correspondence, some financial information, and material related to MIRC's
relationship with Milwaukee Public Schools' (MPS) efforts to desegregate. The
strength of the collection lies in records related to the State's Chapter 220
(starting in 1976) efforts to integrate Milwaukee's suburban schools. Fundraising
records document MIRC's ongoing efforts to raise money, legal/case files document
MIRC's efforts to track desegregation/integration efforts made throughout the
country in the late 1970s to early 1980s, extensive newspaper clippings follow
Milwaukee/suburban desegregation efforts during this time, and numerous
papers/reports provide contemporary context to the issues of school and housing
integration.
