Union Labor Publishing Company Records, 1939-1963

Scope and Content Note

The records consist of Correspondence pertaining to the Board of Directors meetings, personnel, circulation, advertising, financial matters, and similar topics related to the internal functioning of the company.

The Corporate Records include a complete set of annual meeting minutes where the election of members to the Board of Directors and changes in the constitution and by-laws were the main topics of discussion. Board of Directors minutes cover such topics as editorial policies, financial matters, election of officers, contracts, subscription rates, and physical changes in the company's office. There are some gaps in the Board of Directors minutes, the longest from December 1958 to September 1960. The financial records include balance sheets which appear at irregular intervals for the period from 1941 to 1951, but from 1951 on they are found generally on a monthly basis.

Among the Miscellaneous Records are clippings, primarily pertaining to members of the Board of Directors, and contracts with advertising agents and between the company and the American Newspaper Guild Local 159, the United Office Employees Local Union #1738, and the Office Employees International Union Local #9. The information about the Union Cooperative Publishing Company, Kenosha, includes descriptive material and financial statements.
