Scope and Content Note

Graphite drawings, done in 1948 by Emma Glenz, L.E. Blair, F.A.M., and Schwenker for the Wisconsin Highway Commission to be used during the Wisconsin Centennial in 1948, illustrating the development of transportation in Wisconsin during the 1800s. Modes of transportation depicted include horse drawn vehicles, early railroad travel, river travel, bicycles, and automobiles. Early highway construction is also illustrated. Captions for drawings 1 to 14 were taken from copy prints of the original drawings.
