Biography/History

Arthur J. Fecht (1891-1945), a Kansas native, earned a B.S. in engineering from the University of Kansas in 1914. Following graduation, Fecht briefly worked for Westinghouse before getting a job with the Bureau of Standards as an electrical engineer. After serving in World War I, he did contract work for different oil companies and in 1925 joined McCollum Exploration Company. McCollum performed geophysical prospecting and Fecht later became their chief geophysicist. In 1939, he took a trip around the world, which was partly for pleasure, but he also took the opportunity to observe the operations of various oil companies and geological formations from all over the globe.
