Herbert L. Warner, who was born August 5, 1900, worked on the Alaska-Canadian Highway
(ALCAN) from 1943 to 1945. This highway was constructed as part of the war effort
during World War II to connect Alaska to the lower 48 states. Warner was a civilian
but lived on an army base. He held several different jobs during his lifetime,
including engineer, stevedore, and mechanic. Orginally sent to Skagway, Warner
travelled to other areas of Alaska as well and photographed of these places.
