Wisconsin Senate Democratic Caucus Records, 1971-1982

Scope and Content Note

The processed portion of the Senate Democratic Caucus records include reports, publications, clippings, special project files, staff members' papers, and other files collected by the Caucus as part of its ongoing monitoring and legislative research functions. They are organized into the categories Election Records; Budget Files; Publications, Memoranda, and Reports; Voting Analyses; Biographical Clippings; Special Project Files; and Staff Members' Papers.

Included in the Publications category are press releases, columns, and other material prepared for distribution by individual senators, as well as Caucus products. The Biographical Clippings concern senators who had left office. Special Projects were defined by their short-term nature; these files include extensive but incomplete transcripts of 1977 Senate Governmental and Veterans Affairs Committee hearings on John Moses and the Veterans Affairs Dept.

The majority of the Staff Members' Papers are those from the 1979 monitoring of energy legislation by staffer Julie Kernahan. Arranged as alphabetical subject files are handwritten notes, memoranda, research material, correspondence, and other material prepared for her own use and for various legislators interested in energy issues. Also included are 1977-1978 chronological files of Mary Ann Gerrard consisting of memoranda, columns, newsletters, and correspondence which she maintained as a personal record of work done for numerous senators.
