Scope and Content Note

The collection is primarily composed of black and white photographs but also contains color photos, hand drawn illustrations and other ephemera. The photographs cover a wide range of topics including grass roots activism, parks, schools, housing, politics, business, streets, parades, festivals, students, protests, neighborhood groups and associations, the arts, and development projects including the Park West Corridor.

In Series One, the folder is labelled using the name of the photo assignment provided by the newspaper, with clarification provided only when necessary. The contributing photographer’s name is noted on the folder when known. Some folders in Series Two contain a sheet with identifying information about the subjects of photos. In Series Three, the “Protests” folder contains a number of photographs with handwritten captions on the back providing additional context and information.
