Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) began collecting information on local organizations so
people could have a general knowledge of an organization as well as provide contact
information on it. The first edition of the "Directory of Milwaukee County
Organizations" was printed in 1949 and was produced sporadically into the 1960s. As
costs began to rise, MPL continued to keep a file on local organizations for
reference, but it was no longer printed and distributed.
