Scope and Content Note

Tape recordings and transcripts from most of the sessions of a conference of civil rights activists held in Jackson, Mississippi, October 30 - November 2, 1979: accompanied by a program of the conference annotated to show speaker substitutions. Conference speakers included Joan Trumpauer Mulholland (Session 2), John R. Salter Jr. (Session 3), Paul Cowan (Session 4), Sue Thrasher (Session 4), Anne Braden (Session 6), Ella Baker (Session 6), Anne Romaine (Session 7), and many others. Sessions 11, 13, and 14 are not represented in the collection. The tapes were partially recorded by Sarah Cooper of the Historical Society staff and partially (those with an asterisk) copied from tapes recorded by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, 1981; transcripts were prepared by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
