This collection contains records from the City of Milwaukee’s 3rd District Alderman,
Michael S. D’Amato. The bulk of the records date from his Aldermanic tenure,
1996-2008, although some have been retained from his predecessor, Larraine
McNamara-McGraw. The original subject headings from aldermanic staff have been kept
intact as much as possible. This collection includes reports, statistics,
publications, correspondence, handwritten notes, drafts of ordinances, newspaper
clippings and articles. Some of the largest subjects include research and public
reaction on the proposal to extend benefits to City of Milwaukee employees’ domestic
partners, charter/choice schools’ development, the 2000 census results and City of
Milwaukee redistricting as well as the proposed developments of Humboldt Yards and
Lafayette Place. There are also folders related to multiple neighborhood
associations within the district and their activities. The few records dated in the
1970s are copies of articles. The folder titled Parks and Playgrounds and the two
legal sized folders titled UWM - Eastside Transportation Management Association
(ETMA) were originally in oversized binders. They were removed from those but kept
in their original order.
