People's Video Records, 1974-1977

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of material pertaining to People's Video and several related organizations: the Feminists Video Collective, Feminists Against Media Oppression, and Capital Media Associates.

The PEOPLE'S VIDEO RECORDS, which are arranged as one alphabetical subject file, primarily consist of funding proposals. Most interesting of these are the files on involvement with VISTA and unfunded proposals submitted to the Campaign for Human Development and Madison's Human Resources Task Force. With the exception of the audio and video tapes, which are unprocessed, production materials are quite limited. However, there are files of project proposals, a log, and equipment and editing forms. Even for Mondo Video, PV's longest-running program, the materials are only fragmentary. The general correspondence is also quite sparse, with exchanges with Complete Channel Television over various disagreements being of greatest interest.

Of the alphabetically-arranged RELATED ORGANIZATIONS series, files on FAMO and FVC, which were outgrowths of People's Video, are largest in size. These include correspondence with other feminist filmmakers and broadcasters such as Pamela Allen and reports and clippings pertaining to FAMO's media images survey project. Also of note are the files on Capital Media Associates, a company apparently formed by some PV members to provide videotapes of court proceedings.
