Clyde R. Modie Papers, 1893-1929

Scope and Content Note

The papers relate primarily to Modie's World War I service. There is no information concerning his civilian life. Included are correspondence, clippings, Army and National Guard documents and medical supply inventories. These are arranged by type of document and chronologically thereunder. The major portion of the papers consists of letters from Modie to his family during his years of service, 1917-1919, as a dental surgeon with the American Expeditionary Force. They describe many of his activities and document his location throughout the war. Modie's service in the Spanish-American War and in the Ohio National Guard is sparsely documented. Other papers include his military medical records and other official documents regarding his World War I service, his commissions, and his clippings concerning the 32nd Division's history throughout the war.
