Peter F. Zeimet Papers, 1903-1952

Scope and Content Note

The papers are fragmentary, and they provide the best coverage for 1925. They focus primarily on Zeimet's union career, especially his service as Wisconsin Legislative Representative. The collection illustrates the methods which he used as a union lobbyist to research and document pro-labor positions, to influence legislators, and to mobilize rank-and-file support. It also depicts the legislative issues which were of concern to the BRT and other railroad labor organizations in Wisconsin during the period, as well as records the routine activities of the Wisconsin Legislative Board. The Records are divided into three series: personal papers, records of the Wisconsin Legislative Board, and records of the General Committee of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (Eastern Lines). Zeimet's Personal Papers relate directly to his activities as a railroad employee and center around wages and overtime payment rates. Records of the General Committee of C.,M.&St.P.R.R. do not cover the period during which Zeimet reportedly served on the Committee; they consist primarily of circulars.
