Emanuel F. Brunette Papers, 1929-1937

Scope and Content Note

The Brunette Papers are composed of three groups of correspondence. The first consists of general correspondence carried on with constituents from 1929 to 1937, and especially in the years, 1929 and 1933. This is arranged chronologically by month. Most of the 1929 correspondence is concerned with legislation relative to a children's code and various tax proposals. The 1933 correspondence is concerned with fishing and hunting regulations, state financial matters, and relief measures.

A second series of correspondence and related material is that acquired while Brunette was a member of the University Investigating Committee in 1935. It is illustrative of the concern and philosophy voiced by some of the state's citizens on the matter of communism and morals in the university system. This includes letters from Pres. Glenn Frank.

A third group of correspondence and reports was accumulated in the course of Brunette's activities as a member of the State Emergency Board. The major portion of this material is concerned with school financing deficiencies.

The collection also contains, in Box 6, miscellaneous personal and political materials including speeches and writings, research and reference materials, and drafts of proposed legislation.
