Polish National Alliance of the United States of North America. Lodge 1510: Records, 1912-1959

Scope and Content Note

The collection provides an overview of many of the activities of the lodge during the late 1920s to 1940s and of the term served by president Kwasniewski. There are fewer records pre-dating and post-dating this period. The collection includes a minute book from the date of organization in 1912 to 1934; two registration books, listing names, birth dates, insurance policy numbers, dates of membership, beneficiaries and disposition of policies; and three cash books, 1946-1957. Other records consist of a folder of administrative and committee records, with two printed PNA constitutions, 1912 and 1924, the constitution and by-laws of Lodge 1510, anniversary books, PNA regulation handbooks, and handwritten minutes of committee and other meetings; correspondence and printed memoranda, much of which was from national headquarters; and general financial records such as invoices.

Also present in the correspondence files are records of the illnesses of members for the purpose of determining sick benefits, generally in the form of notes from doctors who treated them, and letters regarding the administration of the insurance fund. Insurance records are composed of assessment records, miscellaneous applications and payment records, and records of insurance taken out to cover Lodge employees. There are also a few membership and officers lists, news clippings, and miscellaneous. One folder contains Roman Kwasniewski's “packets” written and compiled by him for funerals of deceased members. Kwasniewski kept a record of the individual's cause of death, funeral arrangements, pallbearers, survivors, and a copy of the eulogy, together with newspaper obituaries and a record of death benefits paid by the lodge.
